The Spirits of Texas
November 5-7, 2020 | Dripping Springs, Texas

The alcohol-beverage industry in Texas has a substantial economic impact on the Lone Star state. Each year, wine contributes $13 billion, craft beer contributes over $5 billion, and $7.5 billion comes from distilled spirits. Over the last decade, production of Texas spirits like Tito’s have become international household names. Dripping Springs and the surrounding area has become the second-largest wine tourist destination in the nation and the location for The Texas Lyceum, Spirits of Texas conference. Together we will elucidate current trends in alcohol consumption and the future of the Texas alcohol-beverage industry–with a focus on millennials who contribute significantly to these. We’ll explore the Three-Tier System of alcohol distribution instituted after Prohibition as a means to levy taxes, how that affects the production and consumption of alcohol in Texas, and policy issues going forward into the 87th Texas Legislative Session.
