Texas Lyceum Leadership Program 2025Leading Civil DiscourseCampaign for Civility2025: Leading Civil DiscourseWe’re proud to continue a professional development program specifically designed for Lyceum Directors and Alumni. For experts looking to refine technique or beginners interested in learning new skills, these practical workshops will help you be increasingly effective in your professional and civic life. This year we will focus on civil discourse - skills to enhance how we as leaders move forward respectful and productive conversations. Workshops will take place on the day before each quarterly meeting and will be led by Texas Lyceum alumni who are experts in the field, experienced leaders, communication experts, and conflict resolution specialists with a background in fostering inclusive environments and productive dialogue. Each course will feature a topic important to facilitating civil discourse and and a moderated alumni panel modeling civil discourse on a topic related to the quarterly conference. Participants will be provided a curated list of resources for additional learning on enhancing civil discourse. Participants who complete all three courses will receive a certificate of completion.
What is civil discourse and what are the key skills to have to effectively engage and foster civil discourse? In this session you will learn the fundamentals of civil discourse, how to disagree without being disagreeable, and move towards problem solving and civility for productive conversations. The workshop will close out with a moderated conversation on how we teach and narrate the history of our state. Becoming Texas: The Cultural Crossroads of Texas Heritage - Marfa, TX
