Texas is a global maritime powerhouse . Refineries, fishing boats, shipping terminals, cruise lines, and tourists all converge at the state’s central location on the Gulf of Mexico. From t he Sabine River at Texas’s border with Louisiana to the Rio Grande at the M exican border, Texas’s coastal counties (including Harris County) accounted for 33.4% of total Texas real gross product in 2014. With this data in min d, the Texas Lyceum is hosting a Texas leadership conference in Corpus Chri sti to discuss how Texas is working to sustainably manage coastal resources while promoting industry in the state. As business, political and communit y leaders, we seek to connect our group with leaders, scientists, regional experts and policy makers to facilitate a robust conversation where we will strive to answer the question: How does Texas strike a balance between com merce and conservation?
Texas is worki ng to sustainably manage coastal resources while promoting industry in the state - but it’s a delicate balance. Omar Garcia, Texas Lyceum Class of 202 1 and Chief External Affairs Officer for Port Corpus Christi, handles this balance in his daily work. As they seek to continuously attract new busines s to the port, Omar’s team also shapes policy that impacts the region’s con servation efforts.
Rental cars, taxis, and Uber are available. Buses will run for limited times between hot el and meeting locations.
